AFTER four training sessions and one match, gaffer Stevie Aitken is confident about how his Dumbarton side are progressing.
Despite a 2-1 reverse to Dundee in that fixture, with Gregor Buchanan equalising, Sons showed some positive signs against the Dark Blues.
And it was a satisfied manager who emerged afterwards to give his thoughts on the first pre-season game.
He said: “It was a good workout against an SPFL Premiership side who were back in training before us and who had already played a game last week.
“There are plenty positives to take and on the negative side, we are not too worried.
“It’s difficult for the players but the new ones will fit in fine. I thought all of them showed glimpses of why we brought them here.
“We have only had four pre-season sessions together and we showed up well for spells of tonight’s game.”
The revelation of Sons’ squad numbers for the 2016/17 season has also thrown up some intriguing possibilities for the fans.
Numbers 4, 7 and 11 are all still blank, and Stevie is confident of signings to fill those jerseys.
He added: “You can read something into that if you like!
“David Smith would have taken one of those numbers, but he wanted number 17. The players pick their squad numbers.
“The empty ones will be filled up in the coming weeks. Pre-season is for looking at players and we still have players to speak to, and other clubs regarding loans.”
