A CHANCE TO SHINE AT SONS

Thursday 28th May 2015

GREGOR Buchanan checked into the Dumbarton Football Stadium earlier today and has the honour of being manager Stevie Aitken’s first signing, and he’s looking to play a big part in Sons’ continued success.

Dunfermline Athletic had the benefit of the defender’s services last season however the Pars gaffer Allan Johnston released him along with 17 others earlier this month, and it was a decision that the big defender is philosophical about.

Speaking to the official website following completing the formalities on a 1-year deal at the Rock, Gregor commented : “Leaving Dunfermline was a disappointment. They did offer me training facilities, but it was better for me to move on.

“These things happen in football, so best to put them in the past and look forward.”

Gregor has played in Scottish football’s second tier before. He was part of the Airdrie team that played in the old first division in season 2012/13, turning out 30 times and scoring twice, once against Dumbarton.

“I grabbed a goal when Airdrie lost 4-1 at what is now my new football home in 2013.

“It’s the level I want to play at and the Championship next season will be a good league.”

With a number of other clubs chasing his signature, Gregor was impressed with what boss Stevie Aitken had to say to get him to commit to the Sons.

“The manager was very persuasive and he really sold to me his vision for his team at Dumbarton.

“It’s a club with a good reputation and I’m happy to be here.”
