Robbie Cleary joins Dumbarton
We’re delighted to welcome forward Robbie Cleary to the club, with the Canadian inking a deal at The Rock – sponsored by Marbill Coaches until January after leaving Salford City.
Born in Ontario, 23-year-old Robbie started his professional career with Forge FC – featuring in the Canadian Premier League. A move to League One Ontario with Sigma FC followed, where Robbie’s performances caught the eye of English League Two side Salford City.
Robbie made the move across the Atlantic to join the Ammies, famously owned by members of Manchester United’s iconic Class of 92, in 2024 – and featured twice for their first team.
Loan spells with FC United of Manchester and Bamber Bridge followed, with Robbie spending time last year across the Irish Sea with League of Ireland First Division side Kerry – registering three goals and three assists in 12 games with the Tralee side.
Now he’s checked in at The Rock to add further firepower to boss Frank McKeown’s squad.
The gaffer said: “Adding an extra option to our attack has been a priority for me for a number of weeks now, and Robbie ticks all the boxes we’re looking for.
“He’s come through at a very good level in England and is capable of playing out wide or through the middle. Robbie’s very direct and positive and will be a major goal threat in either position. He’s someone capable of creating chances out of nothing and – at 23 – is now determined to make a name for himself and get regular football under his belt.
“I’m delighted to get a deal over the line for Robbie as he was recently on trial at a full time club in Scotland and due to finances that didn’t materialise, which allowed us to step in and secure his signature. Robbie is the type of player that probably won’t be with us for long if he reaches the potential he undoubtedly has. We are excited to see what he can do in a Dumbarton shirt.”
Robbie goes straight into the squad for today’s trip to face Kelty Hearts.
Welcome to The Rock, Robbie!
