Mikey Doyle named new Sons skipper

Michael Doyle will lead Dumbarton into a new era, having been appointed as the club’s new captain.

The 34-year-old, who joined us from Cove Rangers in January, has previously worn the armband at The Balmoral Stadium, as well as captaining Queen’s Park as they secured back-to-back promotions.

Josh Todd will serve as vice-captain, having previously worn the armband at Queen of the South.

Boss Frank McKeown said: “With or without the armband, Mikey has shown himself to be a natural leader throughout his career. He is someone who has been a huge influence both in the dressing room and on the park since he arrived, and has the mindset I look for in our captain.

“Josh Todd will be vice-captain and is also someone with great experience, his composure in the middle of the park is mirrored in the dressing room, where he provides a real calmness, and since returning to the club it’s been clear for all to see.

“Both players are natural leaders, think of others before themselves and set real standards around the club. Both of them will be supported by a leadership group in the dressing room for the season ahead and that group is also filled with very good professionals with strong leadership qualities. Regardless of whether they have the armband or not, those qualities and examples will stand us in good stead this season.”
