Dumbarton Football Club are delighted to announce that Gordon Scanlan has been appointed as the clubs Head of Youth Development.

Gordon is currently with the Sons first-team as a video analyst and will now combine his duties with overseeing all things football in the development sides at DFC.

He was also with the club as a coach in the youth set up between 2012 and 2016 and will initially take control of the under-20’s, who compete in the West of Scotland Football Development League.

Dumbarton FC hopes that this development can further continue the positive steps that have been taken to develop the youth academy in recent months and allow local footballers in area to continue to fulfill their ambitions and potential which will have benefits for the players, and the club.

Gordon told the clubs website: “I’m really pleased and honoured to be given this opportunity.

“We have put in a lot of hard work over the last year to get the youth system up and running and whilst the early signs are positive, we know we can always do better.

“There are a lot of exciting players across our youth network and I’m looking forward to working with all of the coaches and players.

“We have seen the likes of Luca Vata make his mark on the first-team over the last year or so but we want him to be the first in a long line of players coming through the pathway.”

All at Dumbarton FC would also like to put on record our thanks to David Lavery, who has parted company with the club after managing the under-20’s.
