SONS development team played their last game of their league season against Annan Athletic last night, losing 4-2.
The match, played at Galabank, ended a tough campaign for the 20s squad, however Sons head of youth Richie Salveta is not too downhearted.
He told us: “The players were playing in a new system last night to try to increase their game knowledge.
“We brought in Under 17s goalkeeper Nathan Adger and defender Brian Cameron, who both started the game.
“An Andrew Biddulph goal midway through the first half brought the game all square after an earlier Annan strike but unfortunately two lapses in concentration close to the interval meant the players gave themselves a difficult task to recover in the second half.
“The players did manage to lift their game though, and another Biddulph strike combined with a very good overall second period performance brought us back into the game and Donald McCallum was unlucky not to equalise in a one on one with their goalkeeper.
“It was pleasing to be able to introduce another under 17s player Daniel Paterson for the last half hour and it looked as though at least an equaliser if not more was on the cards at this stage.
“As the players pushed for the goals their play deserved it was Annan who got a late goal on the counter to seal the game.
“As a group we learned a lot from the game against a strong Annan side.”
