DESPITE dominating proceedings at Pefermill last night with 10-men, Sons development team crashed out of the Little Big Shot youth cup against Edusport Academy.
120 mins of action with game tied at 1-1 made way for a penalty shoot-out with Dumbarton’s youth eventually losing 4-1.
Sons fell behind shortly after the dismissal of Andrew Biddulph three minutes before the half-time break.
However a spirited performance by the remaining ten players, including a stand-out effort by goalie Nathan Adger, brought Dumbarton back into the game when John Cunningham levelled with 20 mins remaining.
In the end the visitors could not summon enough to grab a winner after extra-time, with Edusport defending determinedly and well.
Hopkins and Eadie then had their penalty efforts saved. Chris Martin converted his spot-kick.
Head of youth Richie Salveta commented : “We played well and dominated for long spells considering the disappointment of the decision that led to Andy being red-carded.
“We just couldn’t find the winner.
“When you get to penalties, it’s always a lottery.”
Team : Adger: Martin, McCallum, Lightbody, Fyfe, Beckett, Eadie, Biidulph, Cunningham, Hopkins: Subs – Paterson, Pollock
