150TH ANNIVERSARY RECOGNISED AT WESTMINSTER

Wednesday 21st September 2022

DUMBARTON FC’S 150th anniversary has been recognised in the House of Commons.

West Dunbartonshire MP Martin Docherty-Hughes (SNP) asked the Leader of the House Penny Mordaunt MP (Conservative) if she would congratulate Sons on the milestone, which is just over three months away.

Ms Mordaunt was happy to oblige, in the video posted by Mr Docherty-Hughes on social media today.

Mr Docherty-Hughes said: “My constituency celebrates two very important anniversaries this year.

“First of all, the 150th anniversary of the foundation of ‘The Sons of the Rock’, Dumbarton Football Club, which two members of my family have actually played for.

“And also of course, the 800th anniversary of the Royal Burgh of Dumbarton, founded by our late king, Alexander II.

“So I wonder, will the Leader of the House not only congratulate Dumbarton FC, but the people of Dumbarton on their ancient history?”

Ms Mordaunt replied: “Well I’m very happy to join the Hon. Gentleman in his congratulations on both those achievements and I wish them well in future years.”

Plans for the club’s 150th anniversary are continuing to progress and we will update fans through our website and social media channels when we can.
